Happy Mother's day

Origin

Sanskrit word matri, used to be mōdor in Old English, of Germanic origin; related to Dutch Moeder and German Mutter, from an Indo-European root shared by Latin mater and Greek mētēr.

Mother is probably the only word that has similar phonetics/spelling in different languages and has not changed over thousands of years of cultural / language evolution. And so is the role of the mother. When God wanted to give his powers to his most beautiful creating human being, he chose a woman and gave her powers to 'create' like God aka, give birth to another human being. Such is the power of motherhood.

We celebrate mother's day to acknowledge the power bestowed upon her across the world. The dates might vary, but the emotion and the intentions remain the same. We celebrate it by visiting our mother, giving gifts, praying for their good health and doing something special for them including cooking. I am a terrible cook myself, so not a good example, but my son is a good cook and I can tell you his mum is so happy and proud when he cooks for her on mother's day. Try cooking for your mother on mother's day and make her feel proud.

So do something special and different for your mother this mother's day.

  1. Pick up the phone and call her and say thank you
  2. Take her out for a long drive
  3. Book a date with her on that rooftop restaurant
  4. Book a massage session for her
  5. Buy a fitness bracelet to help her monitor her health
  6. Coke her food or buy her favourite food
  7. Think of one thing you always wanted to do and couldn't, do it this mother's day

Enjoy your mother's day and in the words of Washington Irwin :

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavour by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.
